Personal History :        Mole's parents Recognized not too long after the PegasusRiders had made Second Lake their home place, but even before his birth they referred to themselves as "wanderers in love". As a foal he was raised in an idyllic setting - surrounded by the gentleness of his mother, the fierce protectiveness of his father and two caring, ever-present grandparents in the figure of Windtime and Lilly. And when Flowerbunch and Lonewings recognized again, it looked like the family might be truly blessed by the High Ones, in spite of the ongoing war. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to last.
When Mole's sister WhiteFox was only five turns old, Snowcry led a particularly vicious band to Rillforest Holt. Flowerbunch was killed while she tried to take the baby in safety and Lilly, who had stepped in to shield her daughter with her body, was not spared either. Probably WhiteFox herself would have died had not Lonewings coldly shot the Catrider, Warclaw, killing him instantly. It was because he had to rescue his baby daughter from underneath the corpses of his lifemate and mother-in-recognition that Lonewings couldn't finish off Badger, and earned the long scar across his face from the spy on that occasion. Ever since, the loss of the most precious person he had in the world, along with the knowledge of having killed another elf, Lonewings has been completely mad with grief.
Mole, who was a foal no older than twenty and something, was raised by his father far from the rest of his agemates, because Lonewings had become an hermit and wouldn't let anyone come near his chambers anymore. And yet it wasn't as if he really did much to raise his two children. He kept them isolated from the others foals, but otherwise left them pretty much to themselves. Mole had to grow up into an adult when he was hardly a teen and foster-father his little sister alone, as his grandfather, Windtime, had also withdrawn from their lives to mourn Lilly - and possibly not get on Lonewing's moody tail.
As the two grew older, there came a time when Mole finally faced his father saying plainly that he and Whitefox were old enough to move out and live on their own. He really hoped his words would pull Lonewings out of his catatonia, but the elder male merely nodded and let them be. And to date they probably wouldn't have seen him ever again had Whitefox and Mole not decided not to distance themselves from Lonewings the way Lonewings had distanced himself from them when they were foals. They hope that they'll eventually be able to show him he can still be a PegasusRiders, can still find a purpose within the tribe, and that he had two reasons not to give up on life. Unfortunately so far they haven't really accomplished much and their father's catatonia grows worse and worse, but at least they aren't giving up and never will.
Mole has never really grow close to his grandfather due to the distance between them caused by Windtime's withdrawl. Although he holds no harsh feelings against the elder, he's long ceased considering him family as Windtime never tried to reach out to his grandchildren when they needed him most. Alas, Windtime himself is still deeply troubled by his choice and regrets having lost his opportunity to be a grandfather just because he was afraid of how Lonewings would react to him. It's still too soon to say whether or not the time for a reconciliation between them is at hand.
